How Stowe Family Law modernised reporting, reduced cost, and enabled data-driven growth
Stowe Family Law, the UK’s largest specialist family law firm, needed a better way to turn data into decisions. With rapid growth came complexity — more offices, more cases, and more data.
But their existing analytics setup, built on Tableau, had become a liability. Reports were slow to build, difficult to trust, and expensive to maintain. Internal users struggled to self-serve. Leadership struggled to align.
To regain control, Stowe partnered with Circyl in collaboration with sister company Quiss.
The challenge
As Stowe scaled, the business became more dependent on data. But their analytics environment couldn’t keep up.
Their Tableau-based estate supported more than 250 users. Yet the team spent more time fixing reports than delivering new value. There was no clear data strategy. No common definition of key metrics. No scalable model to support future growth.
What Stowe needed was not just a new reporting tool, they needed a new approach to data.
Why Circyl?
Unlike other providers, Circyl did not just propose a straight platform switch. From the first session, our team began mapping out Stowe’s data model challenges and strategic goals.
Our focus was on enabling long-term success — not just building dashboards. We combined architecture, governance, and user experience to create a scalable reporting foundation for the entire firm.
“Within 15 minutes of our first session with the Circyl team, they’d already identified key weaknesses in our data model. That was a big moment — it was clear they were more than just Power BI experts."

What we delivered
Discovery & Analysis
We worked with stakeholders across the business to understand reporting needs, define what “good” looked like, and prioritise fixes.
DevOps for BI
We introduced Azure DevOps for project delivery. Stowe adopted it internally to streamline workload planning and improve visibility across the BI team.
Power BI Implementation
We replaced Tableau with Power BI, reducing licence costs and giving users access to better, real-time data.
Medallion Architecture for Data Quality
We rebuilt Stowe’s data warehouse into clear bronze, silver and gold layers. This ensured accuracy, consistency and trust at every stage.
Role-Based Dashboards
We created intuitive dashboards for every level of the organisation — from firm-wide metrics to individual performance views.
Sematic Data Model for Consistent Reporting
We developed a centralised semantic model, enabling secure, consistent and easily maintained reports across the entire organisation.
The results
Faster Decisions
Users get insight when and where they need it, without delays or escalations.
Cost Savings
Power BI cut licensing spend and simplified the estate.
Data Alignment
Stowe now works from a single source of truth — no more conflicting metrics or misaligned reports.
“We went from fragmented, inconsistent reporting to a structured data model we can actually build from. That’s been transformative.”
Jack Weir, BI Manager, Stowe Family Law
BI Team Efficiency
The internal team is no longer stuck on reactive support — they’re focused on strategy and innovation.
Governance & Control
Row-Level Security and semantic layers ensure access is controlled, reports are consistent, and data quality is protected.
“Partnering with Stowe was a fantastic experience. Their team’s clarity of vision and willingness to collaborate meant we could go beyond technical delivery and help create something sustainable.”
Andy McLean, Data & Analytics Director, Circyl
